Year of the Jewelry - Week 4: Not from the Mall

"Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort ... " Franklin D. Roosevelet

The YOJ challenge for this week is Not from the Mall.  I like to support handmade or local suppliers where I can.  The beads to create this weeks challenge were bought locally - and I certainly haven't seen anything like this at the local mall.

Enjoy Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

OTTBS Earring Challenge - Week 3: Ellad Fan Earrings

Although slightly behind in this challenge, I am enjoying perusing the many tutorials on offer by some wonderful designers.  This weeks designer is Ellad2.  She has an incredible arrangement of tutorials on offer and each one comes with detailed instructions and loads of photos so that if you are a visual learner like me you can easily follow the directions.

Following on from my experimentation with Preciosa Super Duos and the Twin Beads earrings from Weeks 1 and 2 - I decided to try Ellad2 fan earrings tutorial.  These were fun to make and I could see that I would have fun with this design in the future.  Here are my Bronze Fan Earrings.

Year of the Jewelry - Week 3: Music

Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue ... Plato

This loomed bangle is called rhythm!  The rhythmic up and down of the pattern and the subtle tones representing musical waves epitomes the third week of the YOJ challenge - music.

OTTBS Earring a Week challenge - Weeks 1 and 2

The fabulous facebook group - Operation Tackle That Bead Stash (OTTBS) has given us the choice to create each week either a ring, pendant or earrings.

As I am relatively new to off-looming beading, my second weekly challenge of the year is to create earrings using beads from my stash.  This is going to be a fun challenge and I look forward to sharing with you each week.

These two designs are created using Twin beads, Swarovski pearls and Miyuki round beads.  I look forward over the next year trying many new styles and learning to read patterns. check out new tutorials and expanding my horizon.

Year of the Jewellery - Week 2: Grace

"Like any other gift, the gift of grace can be yours only if you reach out and take it - maybe being able to reach out and take it is a gift too"  ... Anon

This weeks submission is Grace.  When I think of grace - my first thought was pearls.  The recipient of this cuff is the epitome of grace - lovely, serene, beautiful girl.  So without any further ado ....

The Things We Do

Earlier this week - my team at work collaborated to create a trophy for a senior officer in our workplace who was leaving the office.  This trophy needed to be different to most you would receive, it needed to be a true representation of the recipient!

Armed with ideas, supplies were obtained and I volunteered to create this masterpiece!

First we started with the board ...

... which needed a nice background to show of the main attraction ....

... dimensions were taken into consideration ....

.... the centre piece selected ....

.... the name place YOLO RASI (You Only Live Once and our team name)

.... and voila - our trophy.  Our recipient is one of the office's fashionistas with a shoe collection and wardrobe to rival the best of them!

The Year of Jewelry Project - Week 1 - Renewal

True to my word, my first challenge I have set myself for 2013 is to complete as many weeks as I can of The Year of Jewelry Project.  I had entered previously but failed miserably.  There is so much talent amongst this years participants, I look forward to personally challenging myself to meet the challenge of the week.

For week 1 the challenge was renewal.  My Phoenix cuff is the epitome of renewal - rising from the ashes to obtain new life.  The pendant on the cuff was my inspiration and has gained new life to be enjoyed once again.

On the loom ...

Hunka Hunka Burnin' Love ...

Welcome to 2013!  This is the year of the challenge ... I have so many new things I want to try - off loom/free form projects - looming projects, earrings, pendants, metal clay projects, resin, tatting - the list goes on.  I have signed up for a few bead challenges that are taking place within some of the wonderful bead groups that I am a member.  But most importantly - I am challenging myself to come up with some new designs on the loom.

So what are your challenges this year - love to hear your thoughts - add what you will be doing to the comments section  :)

To start the year - here is a teaser of a cuff that is currently underway ...
